I achieved my MA at Leicester University in International Security, looking at the changing link between the ‘human’ and National Security. More specifically, I explored the way in which iconic images that emerged from Guantanamo Bay (the Orange Series) legitimised the dehumanisation of detainees through ‘technologised’ processes such as forcefeeding and waterboarding. These practices enabled detainees to be governed by a Zoepolitics which tied them to the US state and therefore rendered them a ‘proxy’ through which National Security concerns could be addressed.
My main areas of interest include the nexus between security, technology, memory and image.
